Parts of Italy are now banning flipflops

If you plan on traveling to Italy this summer you need to be aware of this new law that makes it illegal for you to wear flip flops, ballerinas and high heels at some of the most popular destinations around Cinque Terre on Italy’s coastline. One can wonder why, and the answer is; it’s for your own safety.

Around 2,500,000 tourists visits Cinque Terre every summer and every summer rescue missions are being held. This costs the city a lot of money and to cover the costs there will be a new law this summer that says you can’t wear flip flops, espradillos, high heels or similar shoes that’s not made for hiking.

If you get caught hiking in bad shoes between villages Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza, Gorniglia and Moterosso you will face fines of between 50 and 2,500 euros, depending on the level of assistance they end up needing.

In other words; make sure to pack your most practical shoes next time you leave for Italy.
