Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) decided to suspend all flights to northern Italy following updated travel recommendations from Norway and Denmark due to the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

SAS decided to halt all flights to and from Milan, Bologna, Venice, and Turin starting March 4th until March 16th. The airline has said that it would get into contact with affected passengers.

The decision came after the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and the Foreign Ministry of Denmark updated their travel recommendations urging would-be travellers not to travel to the Italian regions of Lombardy, Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, and Veneto.

However, at the time this decision took place, the Foreign Ministry of Sweden had not introduced similar travel restrictions regarding northern Italy.

Previously, SAS suspended all flights to mainland China, where the coronavirus was first discovered.

Several other airlines have significantly reduced or outright suspended all flights to northern Italy where the majority of coronavirus cases have been confirmed.

Ryanair, Easyjet, Brussels Airlines, WizzAir, and British Airways reduced the number of flights to northern Italy, while Delta and American Airlines suspended all flights to Milan from March 3rd. However, Turkish Airlines suspended all flights to Italy entirely.
